Description

An exquisite House of Character, featuring a large outdoor pool and alfresco area, set within a quaint and tranquil village located in a UCA (Urban Conservation Area). The property boasts an abundance of authentic features, as it originally was a farmhouse, including original stone arches, animal stone troughs, high ceilings, and limestone walls, creating a wonderful harmony where historic charm meets a tastefully executed modern extension, completed with great attention to detail. This exceptional residence offers a rare opportunity to acquire a beautiful family home that provides seclusion, privacy, and character, tucked away in a picturesque alley within one of the island’s most charming villages. Accommodation comprises a welcoming entrance hall, with a piano room on one side and a stunning arched-ceiling room currently used as a cigar and spirits lounge with a library area. The property further enjoys a spacious sitting room with cathedral-height ceilings, opening onto a generous outdoor entertaining space featuring a large heated swimming pool and an alfresco area with outdoor kitchen and dining facilities, ideal for those who love to entertain. Adjacent to the sitting room is a separate, fully fitted and equipped kitchen/dining room, complete with top-quality appliances. The property offers four bedrooms and five bathrooms, including a master suite with a walk-in wardrobe and an en-suite bathroom. Additional amenities include a soundproofed cinema room, a spacious laundry room, and an outdoor roof-level terrace. Further benefits include solar panels, solar water heater, underfloor heating in bathrooms, a functional wooden pallet fireplace and a one-car garage.  This small and quaint village offers beautiful natural scenery, a rich historical and religious cultural heritage, fascinating legends, and a peaceful rural lifestyle. Qrendi stands as a timeless example of a village that has endured for centuries. Its captivating old village core—where this property is discreetly nestled within an alley—has remained largely unchanged despite modern development on the outskirts, and is home to some of Qrendi’s most interesting and treasured landmarks.

Local Information Qrendi

Qrendi is a small village located in the southwest of Malta, near the villages of Mqabba and Żurrieq. Qrendi was a habited site since antiquity. Within the bounds of the village one can find the magnificent temples (UNESCO World Heritage sites) of Mnajdra and Ħaġar Qim, which date back to about 3800 B.C. As with other Copper Age remains, these rank among the oldest free-standing structures in the World. Remains of shaft graves, field catacombs, and other archaeological evidence further testify to ancient habitation in the area. During World War II, Qrendi and its surroundings hosted a number of garrisons of British forces in preparation for action against Rommel's forces in North Africa; Qrendi also became the site of an airstrip built for the Allied invasion of Sicily - this in now predominantly farmland, but some of the buildings and the line of the runway can still be found to the north of the village. Qrendi chagned considerably in recent year, with modern housing rising round its outskirts. Nevertheless much of the "old" village core remains intact and is well worth a visit. The little harbour of Wied iż-Żurrieq, from where one can take a short boat trip to the famous Blue Grotto, also falls within the confines of Qrendi.
